Orochimaru
Otogakure · Sannin
It was never cruelty that made him dangerous. It was curiosity, and curiosity has no stopping point.
At his parents' grave a child watched a white snake leave its skin behind and go on. The skin was empty; the snake was alive. He spent the next fifty years trying the same trick with bodies.

The only point of colour on this page: two yellow eyes. The body changes; the gaze does not.
The record
The record lists two heights. It is not a mistake: the body being measured is not one body.

Five curiosities on the shelf
There were thousands of tubes in his hideouts, and every one of them was another attempt at five questions. The fullest is immortality; the emptiest is the truth — and it is that emptiness that never let him stop.
Immortality
Did Fushi Tensei defeat death? No — it postponed it. Every three years a new vessel is needed, and every time the vessel is harder to find. What he got is not immortality but a lease with rent due.
Every jutsu
He wanted to learn every technique in the world, and worked out early that one lifetime would not cover it; the obsession with immortality was really the invoice for this wish. What he learned would fill a library. What he did not would fill two.
Kekkei genkai
Bloodline abilities cannot be learned; they are only inherited. He read that not as a rule but as a lock, and tried to pick it on human subjects. Yamato is the only child who came out of those trials alive.
The Uchiha
He wanted the Sharingan not in an ally but in his own eye socket. Itachi refused and took his hand off; Sasuke was kept waiting three years and the transfer reversed at the last moment. This is the least full tube on the shelf, and the one that cost the most.
The truth
Under the other four lies a single wish: to see how the world works. This tube never filled, because every answer left a new question. What makes him dangerous is not his goals but that he never stops at one.
Three techniques, three transgressions
All three were written to cross a line: one crosses death, one the grave, one the human shape. Nothing in his hands is only a combat technique.
- Fushi TenseiLiving Corpse ReincarnationIt does not beat death, it carries it: the soul is lifted out of one body and set down in another. The technique is not a murder but a move. He drives his own soul into the target's body; if the owner does not resist, the body becomes his, abilities included. The cost has three separate lines: the transfer works once every three years, the vessel has to be compatible, and the body starts to rot before the cycle is out. That is why his life is measured in bodies rather than years — and why the chart on this page is what it is.Once every three yearsThe vessel must matchPostpones death
- Edo TenseiImpure World ReincarnationForbidden rank: it calls the dead back in a body that cannot die, and it asks for a living sacrifice to do it.The Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, wrote it and then banned it; Orochimaru found it and finished it. The soul of a dead person is summoned, a living body is used as the mould, and out comes a soldier who does not tire, age or die. The same jutsu came on stage twice and stood on a different side each time: once on a Konoha rooftop it set two Hokage against their own student, once in the middle of a war it brought four Hokage to the allied line. The technique did not change. The hand did.Forbidden rank (kinjutsu)Requires a living sacrificeTwice, on two sides
- Kusanagi no Tsurugi · Yamata no JutsuThe Kusanagi Blade · Eight-Branched SerpentOne is a blade that comes out of his throat, the other eight heads that come out of his body. Both are halves of the same sentence.Kusanagi is a name borrowed from myth: in the legend the blade comes out of the tail of Yamata no Orochi, the eight-headed serpent. He has taken on both halves — the man who swallows the sword and draws it from his mouth, and the snake the sword came out of. Yamata no Jutsu is that enormous eight-headed body itself: not a transformation but a return to the original shape. This is the distinction the page is after — he is not a man who keeps snakes, he is a snake wearing a man.A blade drawn from the throatEight headsBorrowed from myth
The margin of the notebook
Beside the great works, four smaller entries: a seal, a reflex, a title, and a list of addresses.
- Juin — the cursed sealA bite at the neck, and borrowed power in return. The seal quiets the pain and takes the will as interest. Struck into ten people, only one of them survives — which makes it not a gift but an open bet.
- Sen'ei Jashu — the shadow snake handSnakes out of the sleeve: they hold, coil, poison, and if needed pass a blade out of their mouths. His whole combat grammar is a set of conjugations of this one move; everything else is built on top of it.
- The Sannin titleThe title came from an enemy: in the Second Great Shinobi War, Hanzō called three young ninja he could not kill legendary. Three students of one teacher took three roads — one became a hermit, one a healer, one a researcher. Only one of the three refused to accept his own death.
Jiraiya
Tsunade - The hideoutsLaboratories scattered across the countries, each a copy of the last: the same corridor, numbered doors, the same tanks. When one is raided he moves to the next. Kabuto keeps the list; Orochimaru only remembers what was left in which room.
The skins he shed
Five bodies, stacked one on another, the newest on top. Choose a skin: the ones above it hinge open from the head and fall back, and the record beneath becomes readable.
Fifth skin
His own body, returned
Sasuke brought him back, and Orochimaru woke in the body he was born in. In the war he stood on the allied side, carried four Hokage to the front with Edo Tensei, and tried to bring nothing down. Afterwards he agreed to work under the village's watch; the laboratory is still open, the doors are no longer numbered. That is the last thing this page has to say: curiosity does not end when it loses its target, it only turns. His new curiosity became a child — Mitsuki.
- How long it held
- From the middle of the war to today — still on him
- Why it was shed
- It has not been shed. The newest skin at the top of the stack is also the oldest one: the circle closed.
The up and down arrow keys work too; Home and End jump to the two ends of the list.
Five turns
A grave, a title, a flight, a ruin and a change of sides. The same child stands under all five.
Childhood
The white snake at the grave
His parents died in the war. At their grave he found a white snake: the animal had stepped out of its skin and left it there. His teacher Hiruzen told him that snakes shed and begin again each time — meant as consolation. The child did not hear consolation, he heard a method. The obsession with immortality was built on that one sentence.
The Sannin years
The title came, the seat did not
In the Second Great Shinobi War, Hanzō failed to kill the three young ninja in front of him and called them legendary. Orochimaru was considered the most gifted of the three and the obvious name for Hokage. Hiruzen gave the office to Minato Namikaze. The refusal did not tear him from the village at once — but from that day there was nothing left the village could offer him.
The flight
The laboratory is opened
When the rooms under the village were found, they held abducted children and half-finished transfers. Hiruzen caught him himself and could not kill him; Orochimaru walked out into the night. He joined Akatsuki, asked there for Itachi Uchiha's body, and lost a hand for asking. Then he left that too: he could work with no one, because he saw no one as anything but a vessel.
The Sound
His own village, his teacher's end
He founded Otogakure: not a village but a working network of laboratories. During the Chūnin exams he struck the cursed seal into Sasuke, then attacked Konoha and met his teacher on a rooftop. Knowing he could not win, Hiruzen called Shiki Fūjin and, at the cost of his own life, sealed his student's arms. That day Orochimaru failed to level the village, lost his teacher, and left with a body he could no longer use.
“Why? Because the village was there.”
Orochimaru Age 50–51
A change of sides, and a new curiosity
In the middle of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Sasuke called him back, and Orochimaru turned up somewhere nobody expected: on the allied line. He brought four Hokage to the front with Edo Tensei, and that roster changed the course of the war. Afterwards the village did not kill him; it put him under watch. He is still working — and the last thing to come out of his laboratory was not a weapon but a child: Mitsuki.

“Sasuke will come to me on his own. For power.”
“I want to learn every jutsu in this world.”
